Immunify.Life is engaged in a battle against Covid in Cameroon
Cameroon is a lower-middle-income country with a population of over 25 million. Cameroon is endowed with rich natural resources, including oil and gas, mineral ores, high-value species of timber, and agricultural products such as coffee, cotton, cocoa, maize, and cassava.
Despite this, the average daily income is roughly $2 US per day (36,200 FCFA), and Cameroon’s life expectancy is one of the lowest in the world at 58.1 years, putting Cameroon at 174 in the World Life Expectancy Index. WHO (2018)
The country receives hundreds of millions of dollars a year in international aid to treat Malaria, HIV, and Tuberculosis. The Government of Cameroon and the Global Fund have signed an agreement to fund AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria to the tune of FCFA 164 billion for a period running from 2021 to 2023.
Immunify.Life and Cameroon
After years of intensive and detailed discussion and research, governments and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from Africa and Asia created and tested our technology, and we are now ready to move on to the next stage of our development plan.
Cameroon was chosen as our first in-field study site due to its challenges and health profile. This comes after an extensive research and testing journey to four different locations in the country’s remotest areas.
Blessing Associates for Women and Children-BAWAC Cameroon’s passionate leader, MS Baiye Frida Ebai, is eager to discover how modern blockchain-based technology will improve Cameroon’s health and quality of life.
MS Baiye Frida Ebai is a peacemaker, humanitarian advocate, human frontline defender, communications professional, and the founder of Blessing Associates for Women and Children-BAWAC Cameroon, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a dignified living for all. Her organization focuses on health, education, economic empowerment, gender-based violence (GBV) prevention, human rights, and peace-building initiatives.
MS Baiye Frida Ebai says, “ My goal in life is creating an environment in which every woman or girl can exercise her human rights and live to her full potential. My experiences in building resilient communities and individuals, economic and social empowerment schemes, peace-building initiatives, and developmental and mental health and psychosocial well-being, all advancing sustainable development goals, are my driving force to work for humanity. 2018 was the defining moment for many other women-led organizations and me in Cameroon’s South West and Northwest Regions. While working in the humanitarian settings, they witnessed firsthand the untold suffering of communities bearing the brunt of the warring parties and deciding to come out as one to contribute significantly to ending the Anglophone crisis. That same year, we witnessed an increase in the internally displaced populations and refugees in neighboring Nigeria, the loss of livelihoods, and arbitrary arrests and detentions. So it was time to speak up and consistently call on both warring parties to engage in a genuine and sincere dialogue for peace processes to be affected by a third party.”
Immunify.Life fights Covid in Cameroon
Combating the COVID pandemic poses substantial challenges in emerging economies. Lack of availability of treatments and vaccinations against the Sars-Cov-2 virus causes low immunization rates in countries like Cameroon. While 64% of the world’s population had access to the COVID vaccine, only 20% of Africans did. In Cameroon, just 3.95 percent of people receive the first dose.
Immunify.Life established a pilot effort to evaluate and maintain data on the COVID pandemic in Cameroon. Now, Blessing Associates for Women and Children-BAWAC Cameroon uses blockchain to debate vaccination plans and prevent the spread of the Sars-Cov-2 virus.
Immunify.Life has introduced a new way of maintaining medical information in Cameroon by connecting patients and clinicians via a decentralized data network. Immunify.Life began working on health data management in Cameroon in April 2021.
According to COO Daniel Keeny, Immunify.Life is a blockchain-based platform that allows users to study and manage health data, and that data has value. And precisely capturing patient data clearly improves health care outcomes.”
Field study for Immunify
The study on COVID in emerging nations began in April 2021, shortly after Immunify and Children-BAWAC Cameroon signed a partnership agreement.
The project’s pilot phase chose two Limbe health districts to assess COVID treatment and prevention. The study collected data on the administrative health system and personal health to establish a baseline for the ERH initiative.
The Immunify platform, according to Dr. Tabe Joseph, tracks COVID vaccinations. The doctor discusses how blockchain technology might help treat TB in his Douala clinic.
Immunify.Life monitored the medical records of 50 patients seeking COVID treatments and vaccines in Limbe’s two health districts. Thirty participants were interviewed, and the data was placed into Immunify.Life platform.
